Experience, Evolution, and a Focus on Nature

Experience, Evolution, and a Focus on Nature

Tree surgeon working at height to dismantle a large tree

Woodlands and Wetlands may be a relatively young company in name, having traded for around three years, but the experience behind it spans several decades. The business is owned and led by Nigel, who has worked in arboriculture and land management for over 30 years. During this time, the business operated under different trading names, gaining hands-on experience, developing strong technical skills, and building long-standing relationships with local clients.

Our tree surgery and tree consultancy services remain a core part of our work. We provide practical, safety-focused tree care alongside clear, honest advice to help clients make informed decisions about their trees. From routine maintenance, condition assessments, and long-term management planning, we take a balanced approach that considers tree health, site use, and the wider environment. Wherever possible, we aim to retain and manage trees sensitively, ensuring they remain safe, healthy, and valuable features within the landscape.

Like many businesses in the sector, Woodlands and Wetlands began with a strong focus on tree surgery and arboricultural works. While professional tree care remains an important part of what we do, the company has evolved significantly in response to growing environmental challenges and a deeper understanding of how trees fit within wider ecosystems. Today, our primary focus is wildlife, habitat creation, and biodiversity-led land management.

Alongside tree surgery, we now undertake woodland management works designed specifically to benefit wildlife, improve structural diversity, and enhance long-term resilience. This includes selective thinning, veteran tree management, deadwood retention, and natural regeneration strategies that support birds, invertebrates, fungi, and mammals. We also design, create, and manage ponds and wetland areas, recognising their vital role in supporting amphibians, aquatic invertebrates, and a wide range of other species.

At Woodlands and Wetlands, our approach is guided by experience, observation, and a commitment to working with natural processes rather than against them. Whether managing individual trees, whole woodlands, or wetland habitats, our aim is always to balance safety, practicality, and ecological value—helping landscapes function better for both people and wildlife, now and into the future.
